Teens of Denial by Car Seat Headrest
Release Date: May 20th, 2016
Teens of Denial is the first I’ve heard from Car Seat Headrest. However, I went in with an open mind and was pleasantly surprised. The first song on the album, “Fill in the Blank” is what had me hooked in the first thirty seconds.
I love the intro with the female speaking. Telling us, “Wassup guys! You are now listening to Car Seat Headrest!”. This one moment before the music starts set the tone for the album. The starchy guitar intro was upbeat and drew me in. I usually don’t listen to alternative rock but this was different. Those who have read my blog know that I love music that tells a story. “Fill in the Blank” did exactly that. The first track was the perfect intro to the album. I found myself going back to it to replay multiple times.
"I'm so sick of (Fill in the Black) accomplish more."
As for the rest of the album things came together great! This is the first album Car Seat Headrest recorded with a full band or produced. I will say that some of the songs started to blend together and I forget weather or not the song had changed or if it was just an eternal song.
– 1937 State Park: This song sounds the summer of ’16 teenage anthem to a salute to crappy memories of the past.
– (John Gets Kicked out of School for Using) Drugs with Friends [But Stays This Isn’t a Problem]: We’ve all, whether we like to admit it or not have had an experience with our friends and drugs. Good or bad, we can all relate to this song.
– Cosmic Hero: The trumpet that opens this song is a nice break from the heavy guitar instruments. This is easily my favorite song on the album. The raspy vocals and the instrumental pickups are amazing. This song is incredibly original, while listening to it I kept trying to find a band or song to compare it. And I could not, it just stands along.
